This year the Marion Public Library is getting into the fall spirit by having a pumpkin decorating contest. We invite all ages to decorate a pumpkin like their favorite book character. It's easy and fun for the whole family!
-Drop off pumpkins with entry forms during regular hours between Thursday, October 15th and Sunday, October 18th. NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED.
-Judging in library and on Facebook will take place the week of October 19th-25th. Winners will be announced on Monday, October 26th.
-Pumpkins MUST BE PICKED UP by Friday, October 30th or they will be discarded.
-ABSOLUTELY NO CARVED PUMPKINS! Carved pumpkins rot, attract bugs, and smell. Carved pumpkins will not be entered into the contest and will be discarded.
-Pumpkins should represent a favorite book character. On the entry form you must have the title and author of the book written on the form. **We recommend getting the book information first before even starting to decorate the pumpkin.**
-Let your creativity soar! Pumpkins are to be painted or colored with markers--acrylic paints or permanent markers work best. Watercolors tend to run. Yarn, construction paper, pipe cleaners, etc. may be used to decorate the pumpkin; paste or glue may also be used.
-Do not write your name anywhere on the pumpkin. We will take your pumpkin and entry form when you drop it off and it will be assigned a number.
-Pumpkins will be judged according to the following categories:
-Judging is by popular vote by patrons in the library and on our Facebook page. Only one vote per category per person.
-A FREE BOOK (and bragging rights) will be awarded to the top Three entries in each category.
