Step Into Iowa History with Linda McCann

Meeting Room A

The Civilian Conservation Corps was a federal program to assist young men in supporting their families, and also to renew our natural resources. Most of the Iowa State Parks had work done in them by the CCC. There were 18 dams built in parks to create a lake. But, in Iowa, 75% of the camps worked on soil erosion projects. They built terraces, dams, and helped with drought control. They also planted trees to reforest the State. For her book, Linda was able to speak with men who had worked in the CCC, and they shared their memories with her.
