CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – April 15, 2017– The Metro Library Network, a collaboration between the Cedar Rapids, Hiawatha, and Marion Public libraries, will begin lending wifi hotspots to library card holders on April 17.

For several years now, the Library Board of Trustees has been working from the direction provided by the community during the Imagine 8 visioning process in 2009. Expanding the library was identified as one of the 8 most important goals for making Marion a better place to live. The process started with 1800 ideas. We’re finally getting around to making the library happen.

Last date to take the survey was July 19, 2015: thanks to those of you who participated!  When you plan for a new library facility you need to look beyond your current needs and try to envision what the community will be like in 20 years. We started down that road last year when we developed an assessment of the features needed in a new Marion library, one designed to serve a city of 60,000 in 2035.

The American Library Association has announced new award books for 2015! If you're looking for something new to read, check out the updated Printz Award books, given for excellence in teen fiction. Starting to feel like you're outgrowing the YA section a little, or just looking for a new challenge? Try the Alex Awards, a list of adult books that are also great for teens. And check out the Teen area for our display of Rainbow List Books, suggested fiction and non-fiction that has GLBTQ characters.
