I've known for awhile that smart women read and write romance--maybe I'm a bit biased since I'm a romance reader! One of the best romances I've ever read is The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory. The author is a total #GirlBoss who is an attorney by day and romance writer in the evening.
The Wedding Date begins with the best meet-cute imaginable. Our leading characters, Alexa and Drew, meet in an elevator that stalls in a historic San Francisco hotel. They make small talk, and Drew reveals he's dreading going solo to his ex-girlfriend's wedding. That is, until Alexa agrees to be his fake girlfriend and date to the wedding.
This is something Alexa would normally never do! She has her J.D. and is the Chief of Staff for the mayor of Berkeley, and Drew is pediatrician practicing in L.A.--a seven hour drive away from Alexa. Will the fake date blossom into something more? Can they survive the distance, high demands of their careers, and their different backgrounds?
Alexa makes the perfect leading lady. She has a career that she loves, is smart, and loooves to eat. She's basically your best friend written as a character. I'm so happy that Guillory realistically represented an interracial relationship in her romance. It's something I haven't seen in as many romances as I'd like!
Verdict: If you're looking for an adorable romance for the modern age, pick this book up immediately!
