The Marion Public Library will extend hours in the month of September in celebration of National Library Card Sign-up Month. The Library will open on at 8:00 AM on weekdays throughout the month.
During this time, patrons will be able to: pick up holds, browse, check out materials using the self-check machine, search for materials using the online card catalog, return materials, access public computers, use printer/copier services, send faxes and access the DOT kiosk. During this time, those who don’t have a library card will be able to sign up for one, too.
“This is an exciting pilot program for the Marion Public Library. We constantly get feedback that we need to open earlier on weekdays. Our budget can’t necessarily accommodate adding additional staff and hours to make that happen, so the Extended Access hours concept might just be a reasonable way to meet demands. Many patrons already have a self-service library experience as they come in to conduct simple tasks like using computers or picking up holds. We are simply allowing an extra 90 minutes each weekday to do just that.”, commented Library Director Hollie Trenary.
This pilot program will run throughout September, and at the end of the month, this program will be evaluated, and next steps will be determined.
