The Friends of the Marion Public Library (MPL) is a citizen volunteer organization that promotes the use of the library and provides financial assistance for various purchases and programs.
The Friends of MPL operate a used bookstore, sponsor semi-annual book sales, and provide the Friends Home Books Program for homebound patrons. Funds from the bookstore and sale are used to support reading and speaker programs, purchase special equipment and information resources, sponsor author visits, and help with other special projects.
In January 2020, the Friends of the Marion Public Library introduced the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program to Marion.
This wonderful partnership promotes early reading habits and encourages a lifelong appreciation for literacy and learning.
Kids ages 0-5 who live in the 52302 zip code are eligible to register for the program. Once registered, children will receive one book by mail, each month, until they age out of the program. There is no cost to the child/family to participate.
This program is supported by the Friends of the Marion Public Library, The Alliant Energy Foundation, The Marion Independent School Foundation & Alumni Association, & The John A. & Elise M. Nelson Fund of the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation, ACT Corporate Giving and Cedar Rapids Daybreak Rotary. Please consider donating to support this program. Just $26.00 can sponsor one child for one year.
