Marion Public Library Launches Community Food Pantry

The Marion Public Library is expanding access to essential resources through the creation of a new community food pantry, a project made possible through a combination of grant funding and community support.

Located on the library’s main level next to the media section, the pantry provides free supplemental food items during library operating hours. The pantry is designed to offer convenient and welcoming access to food resources for community members.

“Libraries play an important role in supporting the overall well-being of our community,” Youth Services Manager Bob Reynolds said. “The food pantry helps connect people with resources they need while reinforcing the library’s mission to serve as a trusted community hub.”

The food pantry was established through grants from the Diamond V fund at the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation, the Bloomhall Family Fund at the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation, and the Iowa DNR Food Storage Capacity program. Ongoing support for the food pantry is provided by HACAP and the Marion Public Library Foundation.

“The support we’ve received from our grant funders, donors, and community partners means a lot to us,” Reynolds added. “By working together, we’ve created a resource that will make a meaningful difference for residents today and in the future.”

Community members wishing to donate items to the food pantry may place items in a designated bin near the pantry’s refrigerator and freezer. Donations must be sealed, undamaged, and nonperishable. Please, no items in glass containers, homemade items, or refrigerated and frozen items.
