Teen Activity Kits @ MPL FAQ’s What is a Teen Activity Kit? These are teen-focused kits filled with different themed activities, such as card games and tricks, duct tape crafts, puzzles and brain teasers, creative writing and more. Who can check them out? These are recommended for ages 10-18, but anyone in good standing (with fines less than $20.00) can check them out. How many/how long can they be checked out for?

We are so pleased to be able to offer Playaway audio books to our patrons, starting Monday, November 4th. What is a Playaway, you ask? It’s an audio book that requires no WiFi, no CD player, no paid subscription, and no downloads. You simply put a AAA battery in the top of the Playaway, plug in your headphones, and you can listen to your audio book. Playaways are small, perfect to take on your run; tuck into your pocket when you’re walking the dog  or getting your to-do list done at home.

The Marion Public Library, along with the two other libraries in the Metro Library Network, will be accepting non-perishable food items in lieu of fines for overdue materials. All food items collected will go to the HACAP Food Reservoir.

A Short Story Dispenser has been making a tour of Iowa libraries before it returns to its home at the University of Iowa. Marion Public Library will serve as the last stop on the literacy kiosk’s “Creative Corridor” tour. The kiosk will be hosted at MPL throughout the month of April.  Users can choose the timeframe they’d like to read (anywhere from 1-5 minutes) and then a free short story or poem will print out on eco-friendly paper for them to enjoy. The dispenser is located at the front of the library, near the self checkout area.

Grant will allow Librarians to Lead Book Clubs with Underserved Teens Marion Public Library has been selected as one of 100 libraries nationwide to take part in the Great Stories Club, a reading and discussion program for underserved teens. This competitive grant is offered by the American Library Association (ALA) with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
