Beginning Sunday, January 26th and continuing through Sunday, May 24th, Marion Public Library will open early every fourth Sunday of the month for Sensory Friendly Browsing. This service is for individuals of all ages on the autism spectrum or with other sensory processing needs and their families and caregivers.

Here are a few notes on our fine free initiative:  This is a shared vision among all 3 Metro Library Network libraries. Research shows that overdue fines don’t motivate people to return their materials. When libraries are fine free, more materials overall are returned. Also, more people get library cards and use the library. We will still charge for items that aren’t returned at all but won’t penalize anyone for returning materials late.

Teen Activity Kits @ MPL FAQ’s What is a Teen Activity Kit? These are teen-focused kits filled with different themed activities, such as card games and tricks, duct tape crafts, puzzles and brain teasers, creative writing and more. Who can check them out? These are recommended for ages 10-18, but anyone in good standing (with fines less than $20.00) can check them out. How many/how long can they be checked out for?

What are Launchpads? We now have 30 Children’s Launchpads, funded by the Marion Public Library Foundation. Each is a tablet that comes preloaded with 10 educational apps for children. No Wi-Fi is required and there is no access to the internet included.
