After a review by participants, trustees, and stakeholders, the Cost Benefit Site Analysis for the library building project is now ready and is posted on the library website this week. The report includes an examination of how the site analysis fits into a broader service plan; an explanation of the site comparison system; a discussion of funding strategies; and a detailed analysis and value comparison of the site options the study team was asked to evaluate.

The Marion Public Library Board of Trustees will soon take another step toward achieving an Imagine8 goal. The community visioning process identified a renovated or expanded library as one of the Great 8 projects. The Library Board and associated groups have been charged with raising additional funds, reviewing library expansion options and proceeding with an expansion of the library in a public-private collaboration to accomplish the “Book It” goal.

Because of Marion’s phenomenal growth we need to plan for a larger library, but we also need to think carefully about the kind of space Marion’s library users need. Libraries and library services are changing because of the way people need to use them.

The Teen Summer Reading Program, for teens going into 6th - 12th grades, begins on June 2. This year's theme is Spark a Reaction, so we're going to focus on science by conducting experiments, combining art and chemistry, art and biology, and creating edible science with Cooking Capers.

In 2008, Marion conducted a community visioning process called Imagine8. Its purpose was to identify the civic projects most needed to realize the future of Marion as one of Iowa’s fastest growing cities.  Expansion of the current library was identified as one of the eight most important projects.

Spring is a little late this year but it’s an exciting season for the library. Last fall the library’s Renovation and Expansion (R&E) Committee identified features required of a library designed to serve the 21st century needs of Marion. They also took on the task of identifying the look and feel of a library best suited to Marion’s unique character.

Adults General Teens
Come into the library between April 5 and April 12 and play Dash for the Stash! This Money Smart Week program will award a $1000 IRA to one lucky winner! Come in, find the four posters, learn from them about investing, and scan the QR codes on your phone to answer quiz questions. (There are web addresses for playing on your computer or other mobile device, too.) You get two chances to win for each correct answer!
